Campaign group Crush Crime has pointed out that it is easier for a drink-driver to get a free car from the state than a lifetime driving ban, and has since launched a petition give lifetime bans to repeat drink drivers. Speaking about Morgan McSweeney’s resignation, skills minister Jacqui Smith told Times Radio:
“It’s clearly not ideal but I do understand why Morgan, as he explained, decided to resign at this point.
